Q & A with Jay Sigler, CEO of Cinfed

Q: What’s the significance of this milestone? What does it mean for the organization – both members and employees?

“On one level, $500 million in assets is a benchmark. It’s a snapshot of where we are as an organization – how much we’ve grown, and where we stand in comparison to our peers, both locally and nationally. The bigger picture, though, is that it shows our strength as an organization. We’re rock-solid from a financial standpoint and it re-affirms and validates our members’ confidence in Cinfed’s stability, even as the financial markets go up and down.

"Reaching $500 million also means we have the resources to continue enhancing our services to our members, keeping our current offerings up to date and finding new ways to add value to our member relationships.”

Q: How was the $500 million milestone achieved? What were the building blocks that helped reach this point?

“Number one, as a not-for-profit cooperative, we depend on the support of, and relationships with, our members. Over the past few years, we have grown the number of members we serve and deepened relationships with our existing members – meaning more members are relying on us for more services, like checking accounts, auto loans, mortgages and certificates. These increases in our member relationships have fueled our growth and will continue to be the primary driver of our growth in the future.

"Another key component was the strategic plan established by our board of directors. Although our board is composed entirely of volunteers, they devoted countless hours to create a plan that was aggressive, yet realistic. Their insights and expertise were invaluable in putting our strategy together.

"Last but certainly not least, our employees were a major contributing factor. From the back-office staff to the front-line tellers, we worked together to meet our members’ needs, and provide outstanding service to help them find solutions to their financial challenges. We developed the Cinfed values and we encourage employees to meet those standards on a daily basis.”

Q: What’s next for Cinfed? What upcoming milestones are on the horizon?

“With the people and the structure we have in place, the sky’s the limit - $600 million, $750 million and eventually even $1 billion. However, we can only do that if we continue to keep the needs of our members front-and-center. That means continuing to invest in technology and digital options for members to manage their accounts. It means continuing to provide personal service for our members’ individual needs. It means continuing to make strategic decisions based on our resources and market opportunities.

"Our mission is, ‘We care about our members’ success.’ That will always be our guiding principle and will always set our organizational direction. With those priorities and mindset, we will continue to be successful.”
